Chapter 2 question 2,3,4

Did the Synoptic gospels suggest the idea of 'Messianic Secrecy'? If so, did Scott's explanation suggest a strong reason for Jesus to deliberately conceal his identity? (p.55-6

I don't think that they suggest Messianic Secrecy. Maybe a prolonging of HIs ministry, but not to keep people from knowing who he was. I think one of the reasons deals with the previous question and the expectations of the Kingdom of God as Scott aslso suggests in his chapter (56).

Why did Jesus want to be baptized? Why was this significant enlight of the Jews?
Scott describes it as Jesus' innauguration as forseen in Isaiah. Jesus' baptism identified him with John, meaning the coming of the Messiah and the repentance of sin. This was significant in that he identified with John, a proven religious leader already.

According to the text, has the Kingdom of God arrived or are we still awaiting its arrival?
Yes!

  1. Nathan, I guess when he talk about the 'Messianic Secrecy' he meant that Jesus didn't want His identity as the Messiah revealed until the full Plan of Salvation was accomplish meaning all the prophesies fulfill so they will understand God’s Plan to save them from sin and not the way they expected the Messiah.
About the third question you answer yes but you didn’t elaborate. So, so you mean the Kingdom has arrived or we still waiting for it.
I just heard someone saying all the prophesies had been fulfilled so Jesus can come any minute. I was not aware that ‘all’ had been fulfilled. Have you heard something about it? Do you believe the end is really close now?

  4. Elaboration was not inteneded on the last question, Jesus has brought the Kingdom, but we are still awaiting for it's fulfillment.

I see the evidence that Jesus instructed some to keep his identity as the Messiah, but at times he proclaims himself to be the Son of Man, he refers to the Father as Father. Also Peter rightly proclaims who He is during his ministry. He might not have been shouting it, but he was portraying His identity of the Messiah throughout His ministry.

Tim and Tim, thanks for picking on the guy who answered the questions first!!! and No I don't know
